But for good reason I promise... I've been shooting like a mad woman and beginning my summer of duel citizenship... and it really is like two different countries... Santa Barbara California... and Mackinac Island... this should prove to be interesting.
So since last I wrote... I've moved into my summer place on Mackinac... been here for two weeks... photographed 6 weddings, placed my images in several stores, and of course tried to set up a house... and now on Tuesday I head back to Cali for a few shoots and a dose of home. But... my goal is to blog every day till then to get you all caught up with the photo shoots.
First a couple really cool engagement sessions I had prior to leaving for the island.
I met up with Erika and Brad in a gorgeous Chicago Park, on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. Erika and I had been chatting via email for months and I just knew we would hit it off. We laughed so hard. I felt like Erika Brad and I had been friends for years. They were so much fun... and it was even neater to be able to meet them in their hometown for the shoot. I can't wait for their wedding later this year on the Island... if its anything like the engagement session I'm sure we'll be laughing the whole time!!
Then the second engagement session was with Heather and Evan. This is going to be one of coolest weddings I have this year... I am going to be all over the country photographing these two. I met them last October on Mackinac during the wedding expo... we instantly hit it off. Well ,of course we did, they are getting married in Mackinac but live in Cali... how perfect could it get. So after chatting all weekend in October, we then met up again in December for a bite to eat in San Jose ... which one hour meeting led to two... then just last month we met at this awesome dive restaurant in Pescadero (north of Santa Cruz). We were there to do their enagegement session. So we started to catch up when all of a sudden (an hour later) we realized the time had flown by again and we were about to miss the sunset on the beach.. luckily we were right on time... and it was a beautiful evening. Now to follow will be their wedding on Mackinac... and then their wedding party back in northern California... how fun will this be... by the time they are married I think I might be a part of their adopted family!!
Good luck with all the last minute details you two and as always call me with any questions!! Can't wait to see you back here on the island.
And now... to work on the rest of my blogging images for the next 3 days... 7 weddings... pheww... wish me luck (I figure if I put it up here I HAVE to do it)!
Have a beautiful day and may you all feel at home where ever you are. As my home is constantly changing these days .. I've started to realize that as long as I have the amazing people for whom I care about and care about me nearby ... that's what makes a home.. . it is possible to have more then one home... I've decided it's allowed to not be able to answer the question "where do you live" easily!!

So... My Presidents Day-Valentines Day-Chili Cookoff weekend on Mackinac.... It was an island first for me... flying into the island in the dead of winter... granted I was hoping to experience the infamous ice-bridge... but to no luck ...this winter the lake never froze... needless to say even without the usual freedom TRUE islanders look forward to year round... most were still in high spirits ... and ready for the annual Chili Cookoff (granted the three bars (Sinclairs, Mustang, & Village Inn) open helped with the dispersion of such "spirits")... but all was not lost, beautiful sunsets, great friends, and awesome chili was still to be found in abundance. As always, Mackinac never ceases to amaze and surprise me... even after ten years I constantly discover new joys on the is Magical place.
(You'll notice the last pic is a collage of people.. these are just a few islanders that always make me smile and keep the island going year round when the rest of us are scared of the winter ... a few are missing (you, for example Mary... how were you not in any of my pics :-)... but I just wanted to pay props to these awesome people who always welcome me anytime of year. also... Heather & Chris... you'll be soooo missed!!!)
And then... a month later... off to Kona Hawaii to shoot a wedding. The minute I landed I took a deep breath. The smells, the weather, I just loved the warm air hitting my face as I walked down the steps of the plane onto the tarmac . .to see all the lush greenery and tropical flow---WAIT... it looks like Mars... black rocks every where. Come to find out... oh yeah ... the Big Island is built ontop of a volcano... oopsie... well that just shows my mind was focused more on the what lens to bring for the wedding... then to actually research... (I'll admit... I did know there was lava rock... I just didn't expect it everywhere!!). It was really kind of cool. Although I was only there for a couple days ... and mostly for shooting Rachel & Elie's wedding... I did sneak away to the beach a tiny bit... but I have to say one of my favorite things was going for a run every morning and ending it with a fresh papaya filled with yogurt and homemade granola. YUMMY...
It was so fun to be on another island... its amazing the similarities... (I know you think I'm crazy)... but its true...
So... these pics are some of my travel images.... as of Sunday I'll be hopping on a plane heading to Europe... keep checking back to see some pics from the trip as I country hop a little bit

Hawaii!! I miss it!! You're pictures are gorgeous. I LOVE them. Dave and I kept saying, "You just can't capture that in a photo." You so captured all of the islands beauty in each of these. PHENOMINAL!
(03.25.10 @ 01:39 PM)Gina & Chris, I am so happy and thrilled to have been a part of Maria's first photo shoot... first of many I'm sure... she's such a little model!! It thrills me to see you three together. May this year bring you much laughter and joy as you play with your little angel and watch her grow!!
Sooo.. I thought what better blog to end the year as one with a new beginning! May you all have a wonderful New Years (I will try and do another entry but who knows... with all this traveling I'm never sure when I'll have internet)... I am off to Mackinac to ring in the New Year!
REMEMBER... have fun on New Years Day... my mother always said "What you do on New Years Day .. you do all year long"... which is why she refused to ever clean on January 1st!!
May your new year be filled with fullfilling your goals (even though they may shift)... reaching for your dreams (no matter how big and huge they may be)... realizing the love around you (whether it be your closest companion or a stranger on the street)... and OF COURSE LAUGHTER!!
I love you all! Happy New Year!
ANDREJKA!!
These are beyond awesome! I think they are the cutest baby photos I've ever seen, but I could be slightly biased. Thanks Andrejka, you're the best!
(12.31.09 @ 05:22 AM)What beautiful baby photographs! They are so natural and original compared to a lot of what's out there! Absolutely adorable, awesome images!

I arrived in Detroit on Friday and was instantly whisked away to Greenfield Village for some hot cider, caroling, Model T rides... and shivering while watching fireworks!! Followed by an evening of reconnecting with friends from college.

And now, just prepping for the annual Sushi Stroll in the Snow... a tradition my friends and I do every December... who doesn't walk to a sushi dinner in the middle of winter in Detroit.
Below is a map of my travels for the next few weeks. If your in any of these areas... just let me know and we can meet up for some holiday cheer or even a photo shoot (I of course have my camera with me)!!!

Happy Holidays to everyone... stay warm... have fun!!

Andrejka, These photos are amazing!! I absolutley love each and every single one of them :) Can't wait to see the ones from Hawaii, all that talking about your wedding made me want to see pictures!!
My weekend started Friday night with Amy & Michael... an incredible couple that lives in SF and Australia... but travels all the time in Asia... and had their wedding on Mackinac ... can you believe it. I was able to photograph their wedding in Fall of 2008... it is was so much fun to reconnect .. they've now convinced me I need to start shooting in Australia and China... sounds awesome!!

Then it was a Saturday lunch with Michelle & Jeff at the classic SF joint Tadich Grill... I met up with these two a year and a half ago at a coffee shop in SF... then months later I was photographing their touching wedding in Ventura... I had such a great time I could have sat and chatted with them forever (even if they are PC/Nikon users... I won't hold that against them)!!

Then it was on to an amazing dinner with Missy & Christian. I was honored to photograph this couple just a few months ago on Mackinac. We had so much fun chatting about the island... AND California... I just love it when my two worlds join together.

It was soo wonderful to be able to meet up with everyone... I can't wait to see them again. Man... I love that I can keep in touch and become friends with my couples... no matter where they live!
THEN on Sunday ... was all for me... a day of photography .. a day to be inspired by my favorite city... by the people... the food... the sounds... everything!! I even ended the day by catching the Richard Avedon exhibition at the SF MOMA.. he is amazing... it totally started me thinking about my own photography. If you are in the bay area this week check it out... it ends Sunday Nov. 29th.
Here are a few pics from my favorite places in SF... Chinatown (and my dim sum... yummy.. no I didn't eat it ALL... my eyes were a little bigger than my stomach)... then on to City Lights Bookstore and the Vesuvio (in North Beach).. home of the beatnik poets... Kerouac, Ginsberg... etc... now THESE guys are awesome... just being in the bookstore makes mind open up and reminds me how much I love 20th century literature... (yup, that literature degree comes in handy once in awhile)
I hope you all have a wonderful happy joyous Thanksgiving... I'm off to go pick up my mom from the airport... first time she's in Cali for Turkey day... then... your not going to belive this but her and I back up to my fav. city... SF yet again.. I just didn't get enough last time!
May you all find gratitude in the smallest of things... and through that find joy in the world around you!!
Happy Thanksgiving!

A
