Welcome to the photo blog... *finallogowhite25.jpg
Here's where I chat about photography (SURPRISE)...  weddings (of course)... helpful ideas I hear about...  and cool things I find along the way.

Things you can expect from me...
Laughter (I write how I talk if you haven't noticed.. :)
Advice (I don't claim to be an expert...but I do claim to hear expert ideas and share them)
    Stories (but only good ones)
Contests (gotta keep you guessing somehow..)
Cheers (meaning good wishes to good people I meet)
... and a little bit bit of babbling (but hopefully always ending with a big laugh)

While this blog may not be perfect in color, shape, or words . . . I promise, it'll all be written from the heart! More than anything else... I hope that you have fun, get inspired, enjoy reading and maybe even gain a little knowledge along the way (that I'm not promising though)...

I'm so glad you've somehow navigated your way here.  Now... don't forget to bookmark it..  and come back and visit again!!

Love,
A

My photos made the front page of not ONE but TWO  NATIONAL Newspapers... in Macedonia ...  check it out...  granted I don't have the faintest idea what they say...

Love this pic...  (even funnier that the man selling ice cream at midnight next to me was taking pics of me as I was standing there... I think he may have thought I was Susannah... or just another crazy American posing with odd items!!

Yippee... what a cool first!!

Okay so... tomorrow I'm off to Slovenia... am hoping to have internet and stick with my daily blogs...  but can't promise... hold on though...  I will catch you all up when I get a chance.

May you all have interesting but fun "firsts"  show up in your life this week!!

Love,
A

blogsusannahvlatko.jpgOh my goodness... so I haven't finished going through the pics.. .but WHAT an amazing day.  I love Macedonian weddings... it was the longest day full of tradition after tradition... just a quick recap:

-Family & Friends of the Bride meet at her house for quality time before the BIG EVENT
-The groom arrives with  his family, crazy friends ... and a BAND  singing and screaming all the way down the street...  at which point they LITERALLY broke the door of the Brides bedroom as her brothers "bargain" with him for $$ .. then a big party breaks out  (they aren't even married yet)
-Then we all parade to the courthouse (which is an experience in and of itself)..  where they are married in the eyes of the law by a man with the craziest mustache I've ever seen and a cigarette hanging out of his mouth...
-Then outside the GORGEOUS Orthodox church over 130 guests wait while the couple and her father enters the church-- they exchange rings, crowns, and go for a "journey"...
-Next  the reception  which went long into the night... I mean morning.. I didn't leave till well after 2am.. these Macedonians  know how to throw a party... the reception was chocked full of tradition after tradition...  I can't even go into all of...

I'll post more pics later of course... but here are just a few of the beautiful happy couple..  pics of the crazy lovely traditions will be posted soon.. don't worry.. you can't miss the 20 men breaking down the door!!

What a great day... I must say with my Slovenian roots and LOVE of Greek salad entry into Macedonian culture has been quite easy... everyone sounds like my relatives, the feta is amazing, and the hospitality unimaginable...  the more I am here the more I see how many Eastern Europeans at first glance appear with a stern look... but the minute you smile at them they melt like a piece of chocolate in the sun... and have the WARMEST heart, loveliest laugh, and genuine smiles...

After a lovely lunch with my personal tour guide/handler Vasko, he took me to all the sites I will be shooting for the wedding...  what an amazing city with amazing history.  This is going to be some wedding!!

There is a very interesting juxtaposition here between Macedonia's ancient history with a very very new government.  I am amazed by how aware the young adults are here and how the government appears to be very much controlled by a younger generation (the Prime Minister is only 37 and many of the members of Parliament are barely 30)...  I must say the people I have run into have been extremely well educated... extremely hospitable... and extremely funny... there is definitely a lot of laughter around.

This is my kind of place...

Here are a few pics from the day...

Until tomorrow my friends!

Love,
A

HolidayInnskopje.jpgAs I had mentioned... my goal over the next month is to post at least a pic everyday of my journeys throughout Macedonia, Slovenia, Italy, Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France...

So, after a very long day of travel... I made it safe and sound to the Holiday Inn in Skopje,  Macedonia (the finest hotel in the city I might add)... and really I must say it actually is the nicest Holiday Inn I've ever been in... not sure if that is saying much though...

So a quick recap of my 16 hours of travel ... LA to London (met awesome event planner from LA... check out her website... Sophia, it was great to meet you...  Laurel/Nicola... AWESOME event company)

Then... London to Belgrade, Serbia... 4 hour layover...  600 something (assuming not dollars) for a ham sandwich and a coke...

Must say I felt like I was back in Cleveland...  surprising I know... but all over Serbia were woman dressed, talking and acting just like my 104 year old Stara Mama (Slovenian Grandma)

Serbia to Macedonia... ahhhh I made it...

Stay tuned... am just finishing up Day 2 and will try and right about it first thing tomorrow morning... it was quite a day!!

Just a reminder ... "Do something everyday that scares you"... I sure have jumped outside my comfort zone and am loving it!!

Love,
A
