So. Here is the last installment of my April 2010 European adventure with the girls... ITALIA...
The minute our plane landed in Pisa... I instantly felt relaxed... like coming home after a long time. Italia has (and always will) hold a very VERY special place in my heart. I studied here when I was 18 ... again when I was 20... and even photographed my first wedding here years ago... hence the attraction, the love... the devotion to this beautiful country!! Although my Italian is not that good (e non troppo bene)... it doesn't stop me from trying (although my Italian friends just laugh and say... you know we all speak English)...
We rented the most amazing place in the Tuscan countryside (I've stayed and mentioned before) Monte Poni (if you are ever in the area STAY HERE, Dierdre is the best).. I promise you won't regret it... right between Greve (with the best pizza and beer take away super cheap just right of the church) and Panzano... with Dario the Butcher (most famous butcher in Italy.. we had a 7 course dinner one night... and then a 5 course lunch two days later... and my mouth is STILL watering). We then went to Firenze for a couple days and stayed at my favorite Bed and breakfast Dei Mori (Susan and Daniel always make you feel like family).. I couldn't imagine ever staying anywhere else. Along with many other little adventures... wine tasting at Castello Verrazzano, visiting San Giminiano, lost in the countryside (thanks to GPS... no really.. thank you), massages at Vigna Maggio.. and lots of lots of food... once again Italia has not let me down.
But one of the neatest things was to sit drinking a Spritz on the side of the Arno as the sunset with my dear Florentine friend Nadia... discussing her upcoming wedding (May 8th) in Ibiza... (my next big adventure)... Nadia... I cannot wait. I feel so honored after all these years (12 to be exact) ... who would have thought that I would be in Spain photographing your wedding. See you in two weeks!!.. I may wear my diamond in my nose just for you!!
There isn't much I can say about this beautiful place... I definitely thought Paris was fun and special, London was amazing (and I could move there)... but Italia will always hold a piece of my heart and feed my soul in a way that no other place can!!
May you all discover those special places in your life that feed your soul, help you grow, and warm your heart. I feel so blessed to have a couple!!
Love,
A
