I am so thrilled to be sitting in Monte Poni in Chianti (aka... "The Hill") as the tent is being brought in and the ceremony site being decorated ... there is hustle and bustle everywhere. Amana & Johan's wedding is tomorrow!! ... last night was aperetivo (happy hour Italian style) on piazza Santa Croce in Firenze. Tonight... rehearsal dinner in Fiesole (a beautiful little town overlooking Firenze)... tomorrow.. the big day.. then Sunday a poolside brunch in the Tuscan countryside!
Here are just a few photographs from today. First an amazing tradional Italian lunch with fried zucchini flowers, potatoes, steak, fritata, caprese, and salad (yes,,, that was just lunch). Then in order to walk off lunch a hike up to Panzano... to by my favorite salt (yes salt) from the amazing Dario (the butcher... known all throughout Italia). He hand presses his salt with herbs from his garden: lavender, sage, rosemary... you name it!!
Stay tuned... I have a feeling these pics from the wedding are gonna be pretty darn amazing... even the tent is beautiful and it isn't even finished yet.
Well... off to eat (and photograph) a 7 course italian meal... that will have representation by 14 countries... 4 continents... and who knows how many languages... It's gonna be an interesting weekend...

A few weeks ago I headed off the island and into the wilderness of the UP (Upper Peninsula for those non-Michiganders). Erica & Nick found me on the Mackinac Island website but asked if I would be willing to travel to the Miners Beach/Pictured Rocks area for their wedding. Well.. OF COURSE... I'm always up for experiencing something new.
I was shocked by how beautiful this beach was... perfect white sand, turquoise waters, and enchanted woods to get there. I'm so glad I got to visit this beautiful place.
Its been super fun getting to know these two. They (and their entire wedding party) were a BLAST... they definitely know how to have a good time and made me feel 100% part of the party. I was a little bummed I had to leave and head back to the island. Erica and Nick had so many funny stories. They are high school sweethearts... who then went on to college together and gathered their amazing group of friends along the way.
... speaking of fun.. I can't even put into words how fun and hysterical the hour long shuttle to and from the beach was... singing, dancing, laughing... all around!!
Erica & Nick, thank you so much for letting me document your beautiful day and experience your up north life.. and of course introducing me to Miners beach!! WOW... You two seem to know each other inside and out.. your comfort with each other is obvious.. you can make goofy faces one minute and have a private moment the next... I just know this variety will lead to many years of laughter and exciting bus rides!!!

A few months ago I had a blast meeting Erika and Brad in Chicago for their engagement shoot. They were so much fun, I couldn't wait for their wedding in August on Mackinac. The minute I met Erika, I knew her and I would get a long great. I mean how could you not.. her laughter and smile is 100% contagious and the way Brad looks at her quietly and just kinda smirks just shows how well these two work together. Not only do these two work incredibly well together but with Erika's two beautiful daughters they make an amazing family... with the perfect mix of love, laughter... and craziness (I still can't help but laugh at the memory of you guys singing on the boat)!!
Erika & Brad, It was such an incredible pleasure and joy to be a part of your Mackinac Island wedding... you two truly embrace the fun in life... from your karaoke cruise... to joining the locals for Mustache Monday (btw I still want to see this pic). Your joy of life is an inspiration and I know it will continue through your years together!

So for some reason in the heart of this wedding season I decided it would be fun to start offering some island portrait specials. The coolest thing is that out of the woodwork I was getting calls from all sorts of cool people,
First Stacy and her adorable family that were on vacation here on Mackinac. Her two boys were so much fun... they were just running circles around me! I loved it. Its amazing what you can capture in a quick 20 minutes on the island coast.
Next, I get a call from Claire and her mother, that they will be on Mackinac in a few weeks. Claire is about to be a senior, and although she's already had one batch of senior pictures taken, Mackinac is one of her favorite places on earth and would absolutely love to have some taken here. Now this family does it right, 2 nights staying downtown a few at the Grand Hotel. This way they get the full island experience. I planned for two separate photo shoots in order to document both sides of the island. I just love doing senior portraits.
Then finally, my long lost friend Heather from high school (hadn't seen her in 15 years) shows up on the island with her family and tracked me down. It was awesome to get to catch up and photograph her family. Especially since she was around when I picked up my first camera.. . 7th grade, hot pink point and shoot (at least now I'm not cutting off the heads in the pics... well, unless it's on purpose)
One little last thought to leave with you with for the weekend.. this morning, the blinding sun shining in my window woke me up .. although I didn't appreciate nature's alarm waking me two hours before my actual one went off... I did appreciate that this blinding light was that of a cloud's silver lining... it made me stop and take moment and go ahhhhhh!! May you all be blinded by silver linings today... and not left in the shadows of clouds.

About a year ago I had the great pleasure of being a part of Traci & Ken's beautiful Mackinac Island wedding... just take a look...

And then about 9 months ago... I get an email from Traci telling me about the newest addition to their family due a little later in the year!! I was so honored and excited that Traci would track me down. And now... I am so stoked to be able to document little Liam's first year... keep your eyes peeled as he grows. I love doing "1st year photo shoots)... every three months I get to see how the little ones have grown and changed... so, last month I took a little drive to the south of Michigan to visit Traci, Ken ... and little Liam in their home!
World... meet Liam... can you believe his personality.. can't miss it!!
(by the way Ken.... thanks for the art direction... great props.. hahaha)
