So a little over a month ago. I headed across the waters... no not the Atlantic this time... but the Straits of Mackinac... over to the mainland of St. Ignace to photograph Katie & Ryan's wedding.
They were such an incredibly fun couple!! Katie is from Northern Michigan and Ryan's a nice southern gentleman... there weddind was the perfect mix of beauty and fun. A beautiful Catholic service mixed with a fun trolley ride around town ... and then a reception that was all about music and dancing!! I was SOO impressed with Katie's family and there singing ability... it seemed like they all grabbed the mic at some point!!
Katie & Ryan, It has been so much fun getting to know you over the past year. You two are a perfect pair of loveliness and craziness... just like your wedding! I can't wait till our paths cross again ... maybe during the broom ball tourney or the chili cook-off!
CLICK HERE to check out their slideshow... it was so fun to relive their fun wedding!!

It's that time of year again... time for my favorite wedding event... one can't even call it an expo... its a time for anyone even slightly interested in getting married on Mackinac to come explore everything the island has to offer... from one on one tours of the different venues ... to meeting all of us fun event professionals... to pub crawls... live music... champagne toasts... and DJ's mashin' in up ... there are a variety of events everyday ... so its impossible to be bored!! I'm telling you there is not one bit of annoying pushy people.. loud overhead speakers announcing horrible raffle items... anywhere to be found!
Come see me at the HARBOUR VIEW INN SATURDAY from 3:00 -5:00...
Hope to see you!
Safe travels to all those on their way!
Love,
A

A few weeks ago Juliana & Joe showed up on an island with their family, friends and INCREDIBLY ADORABLE little boy (I just couldn't stop taking pictures of him). They walked up the front steps of the gorgeous Grand Hotel and with the help of the wonderful Carole Erbel (of For the Love of Mackinac) had the most beautiful wedding!!
I feel pretty lucky in my line of work that I get to see so many happy couples... and each one is different, each one seems to compliment each other in different ways... Juliana & Joe are no different. Juliana has a smile that is contagious... and every time I saw Joe look at Juliana that smile grew larger and a tiny little smirk would escape his face... (and even their little one had this same smirk). Watching the three of them together, you couldn't imagine them apart!!
Juliana & Joe, It was such an honor and pleasure to be a part of your wedding... you had me in tears one minute and my side hurting from laughing the next!! Thank you!

So I'm now back in the states.. on a rainy island... slightly missing the Tuscan sun and my 80 degree day in Florence.
On my last day in Italy I wandered the streets of my favorite town... Florence.. I studied there when I was 18... again when I was 20... and I actually photographed my first wedding under my own business years ago. So obviously, I not only have an attraction to the beauty of Firenze but its much deeper then that.
What I did realize this trip is how difficult it can be to capture a city you've visited for many years in a new light. So, all of a sudden I found myself photographing the different things... tourists, graffiti (which I was quite surprised and a little sad to see), and of course food... my favorite thing to do in Florence is to go to Mercato Centrale and make friends with the butchers!! Too bad the customs officers DID NOT appreciate my cinghiale (wild boar that is cured old world style)... but some reason they were ok with my pecorino...
Then it was off to aperitivo with my awesome assistant Lily who is in Florence studying for a few months!! I then ended the evening with my dear dear Florentine friend Nadia (who's wedding I happened to photograph in Ibiza Spain just a few months ago)..
Until we meet again my sweet sweet Firenze!!

All I have to say is WOW... again...
Here is just a sneak peak from today's wedding... there will be tons more for me to say later but for now... it's 4 am.. .the celebration is still going on outside my window but I couldn't help but stay up and write something... the "official" evening ended with Marlon a DJ from LA born in Trinidad to take the stage for a final set... one of the last songs was "Everyday People".. this was perfect.. .as I looked around the room and saw how many people, from so many countries.. together on a dance floor.. .being.. just "everyday people"... having fun.. celebrating life and love (we really are all the same, care about the same things, love the same way)
At one point a guest stood up at the wedding and made a toast... what he said really struck home for me.. "Amana.. .Johan... you are truly a New World Couple"... this brought tears to my eyes as I could see how many people had traveled, were living, and were from so many places all over the world. .... 16 countries to be exact (and there were only about 70 people total).
With all the differences between us... its amazing how easy it is to connect and relate and you hardly have to try...
Here are a couple pics.. .so you don't have to just hear me babble this late at night...
May you all experience moments that make you notice how alike all of us in the world really are!
Love
