I am starting to get kind of excited already for next summer... I've already had the best time photographing couples that will be getting married next year... from Katie & Tom in Chicago to Stevi & Bryant in Santa Barbara... I just love engagement shoots...
Here are a few pics from both sessions...
I met Stevi & Bryant last spring at a wedding event in SB ... since then we've met up a few times already. This past Halloween we decided it would be fun to go into the Santa Ynez valley and take some engagement pics while the vineyards were changing colors. It was a beautiful fall day... and even though Bryant...was a bit hesitant to be in t he camera... I think he even had fun by the end... can't wait for your gorgeous ranch wedding next summer at Orella Ranch
Also in October... (I had mentioned Katie & Tom earlier)... I took a little road trip in Chicago... one of my FAVORITE cities. I love that I am getting more and more Chicago clients... it gives plenty more excuses to visit this awesome city. I met Katie & Tom on Mackinac a few months ago. We hit it off instantly... I loved them and both of their families. We decided that instead of doing an island engagement shoot it would be fun to bring a little of their home into the wedding by doing a photo shoot in Chicago.. I of course... was stoked to shoot in the city again...

So, I also thought I would take this time... as an Engagement season is upon us .. .to chat about engagement photo sessions... many couples are on the fence when it comes to engagement photos... so just briefly I thought I would make a quick list of some reason to include this in your wedding photography packages...
1) "Dress Rehearsal" many times people aren't used to having a camera in their face... this gives you the opportunity to get to know your photographer... learn to ignore & relax in front of the camera (so day of... you don't notice it)... as a the person behind the camera, it gives us the chance to see what helps you relax.. .if your a"blinker" .. favor one side... etc.. .and this is worked out before the "big day"
2) Having pics of in your dress and tux are beautiful ... but often times it much nice to have relaxed everyday pics that are professionally taken framed around the house.
3) NOT RUSHED... during a wedding there is a schedule with an engagement shoots... all the time in the world... and youcan talk with your photog beforehand about planning to do one of your favorite things.... go to a favorite place... etc... "a piece of life" type of lifestyle shoot
4) USES... . there are a million ways to use these images with your wedding... from save the dates... thank yous.. guest book... name cards... centerpieces... etc
5) and most importantly.. the are FUN!!!
*often times photographers include enagagement shoots in their package for a minimum cost (as opposed to doing a la carte) because THEY like them... I know I do. SO ask if there is a discoutn or what the additional cost would be.
Hope this helps a bit in all your planning!

So I realize I am a bit behind in posting pics... its almost Thanksgiving and I'm just now posting pics from October... but I will catch up.. I will ... I will ... I will...
Anyways, about a month ago... I hopped on a boat... then in a car... and went on a little road trip south from the island... down to Chicago while passing through my hometown and southern Michigan.
I had a super cool engagement shoot with Katie & Tom (which you'll see later)... then I stopped and saw Traci & Ken for little Liam's second (in his 4 series) photo shoots. Then on my way through the little lovely cornfield that is my hometown of Ovid where I had two of my oldest and dearest friends ask me to do their portraits....
First we have Traci, Ken & Liam... its so neat to watch this little one grow... I am loving this 4 series photo shoot. It's amazing to see how a little one grows in a year!! . . . This shoot I think Liam's new favorite thing had to have been the taste of leaves... welcome to fall Mr. Liam!!
Then I was so stoked to photograph one of my dearest dearest friends. This girl and I have been the closest of friends since we were in grade school... now I just love seeing her with her family. Her two little ones are the cutest things on earth and SOOO much fun... I loved playing with them in the leaves (I don't think they even realized I was taking pictures half the time) . .Stace, Jason, Samantha & Caleb... I love you guys!!!
And to top off my weekend of portraits... a long lost friend, who I hadn't seen in over 15 years found me to take portraits of her adorable daughter Zoa.... it was incredible to see Anna after all these years and I felt incredibly honored that she asked me to photograph her little one. Although... I think Zoa was more interested in eating twigs!!!
Man... I just love how this photo thing is bringing new and old friends back into my life... what a great excuse to get together... catch up ... and capture a piece of their lives!!
Wow.. I can't believe its only a week away from Thanksgiving... may you all have the joys of re-connection this holiday season!!

Jumping down the Rabbit Hole... NOLA style
As the norm I am not home.. still on the road... hanging out in San Fran (one of my favorite places in the world)... but I had to post a couple pics from New Orleans (my other favorite city in the world)... these two places constantly inspire me... every time I visit I feel refreshed and with a new view on life...
I have to say... surprisingly enough I don't really shoot much when I'm in either of these places... I end up just walking around... smelling the smells... watching the people... and taking in the art and creativity that is around every corner... I think a new goal I have is to live in both of these places at some point in my life... they both just make me smile!
On a little side note about my trip to NOLA, I have to say hello and thanks to all the amazing speakers and friends (old and new) for adding to my inspiration. I feel so lucky to be a part of any awesome and supportive photography worldwide community. Once again Pictage's Partnercon has not let me down and has pushed me to try new things... take risks... and keep doing what I love!!
May you all be inspired just a little this week to step outside your box!!

It is about 8 hours before my flight leaves ... my bags are finally packed... and I think I'm ready for another little adventure...
Tomorrow morning I fly out to NOLA (New Orleans) for my favorite photography conference of the year.. Pictage's Partnercon.. about 500 super cool photographers converge on one of my favorite cities in the world, time for some new lectures, new products.. and reconnecting with photog friends from all over the country and compare stories from our 2010 wedding seasons.
Should be fun...

And then... its off to SF for my last wedding of the season...
Have a wonderful week!
